Founder and Principal Consultant of Arcsilea. He specialises in strategic, regulatory and technical aspects for GHG and CO2 Emissions, EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) Requirements, Carbon Intensity Indicators, as well as alternative fuels such as hydrogen and methanol.

Member of the Board of Trustees and the Chairman of the IMO Committee at the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. Chartered Naval Architect (C.Eng), who regularly speaks on safety and environmental issues surrounding the maritime industry.

Arcsilea was founded by Edwin Pang in 2018 in order to focus his consulting work in his main areas of interest: value of lives at sea & the environmental footprint of maritime activities. After 18 years as a Naval Architect with several top consultancies, Ed was increasingly convinced of a need to be an objective advocate of technical issues in the ongoing safety & environmental dialogue within the industry. He decided to build a startup to devote his time helping businesses align their commercial interest with the bigger picture of the safety & environmental agenda.

Dr. Amy Parkes

Amy is the machine learning and data science specialist at Arcsilea. She has extensive experience working with diverse and complex maritime datasets developing methods to solve industrial challenges.

Her work tends surround maritime decarbonisation, quantifying the impact of various decarbonisation measures both from the vessel scale perspective and from the world fleet long-term trajectory perspective.

Her PhD research, undertaken in collaboration with Shell, focused on the development of more reliable and interpretable machine learning methods for vessel performance modelling and operational optimisation. During her studies she also developed the algorithm behind Shell’s Just Add Water (JAWS) draught and trim optimisation system, with demonstrated fuel savings of 8%, which was subsequently nominated for a British Engineering Excellence Award.
